They say that size doesn’t matter. Tell that to players who have room for one 100 mb app left on their mobile device.
Luckily, NJ mobile casinos do a stellar job of packaging dozens, if not hundreds, of games into pint-sized applications.
Just how small are they? Tiny enough that even players who download every single NJ casino app will barely make a dent in their available storage space.
NJ casino app size on iOS
Every single NJ online casino operators offers an app for iOS.
Apps for iPhones and iPads tend to be somewhat bigger than their Android counterparts — nearly twice as large on average. The smallest apps available are:
- 888 Casino: 4.6 mb
- Borgata Casino: 6.6 mb
- Resorts Casino: 9.6 mb
- Golden Nugget Casino: 10.3 mb
Notably, there are a few NJ online casinos that are optimized for mobile browsers, meaning players won’t have to download the app to enjoy the action. However, at present, only Golden Nugget, Resorts, and Mohegan Sun have traversed this route.
It is presumed as technology improves, more operators will couple their apps alongside an optimized mobile web version.
The larger NJ mobile casinos for iOS are over 40 mb, but never more than 100 mb:
- Virgin mobile app: 42.8 mb
- Tropicana mobile casino: 45.2 mb
- Pala Casino app: 70.8 mb
- Betfair mobile app: 74.7 mb
Even on an older iPhone with just 8 gigabytes of storage, the smartphone would be able to house over 100 of the industry’s largest apps.
And should players download every single NJ casino app for iOS, it’ll only eat up less than 400 mb. Not bad for over a dozen applications.
NJ casino app size on Android
All but two NJ online casinos (Harrah’s Casino and 888 Casino) have ported over their software to Android. Wise move, as Android accounts for nearly 90 percent of the mobile market.
The overwhelming majority of NJ casino apps for Android are under 20 mb, with a fair number coming in at under 10 mb:
- Caesars mobile app: 5.4 mb, nearly 200 games
- Golden Nugget mobile casino: 5.1 mb, over 200 games
- Borgata casino app: 3.9 mb, 125+ games
What’s interesting here is that the apps with some of the industry’s largest mobile game libraries are also the smallest in size. That suggests that the games themselves take up very little space, and that software optimization is more impactful on an app’s overall size.
For perspective, even budget Android phones have at least 16 gigabytes of storage space, which is enough to fit over 3,000 Golden Nugget Casino apps.
The largest NJ casino apps are significantly bigger than the aforementioned, but still tend toward the small size:
- Tropicana mobile casino: 21.7 mb
- Virgin mobile casino: 21.7 mb
- Pala casino app: 41.7 mb
- Betfair casino app: 43.9 mb
Pala’s app comes off as something of an anomaly, as it’s quite large and the core app doesn’t come stocked with all available mobile games — players will have to download select titles.
Still, even the biggest NJ casino app for Android will eat up less than 1/400th of a modestly sized storage drive. And as NJ online casino operators continue to optimize their platforms, app size may continue to shrink.
Version matters
In order to run a NJ casino app from their tablet or smartphone device players will need both enough storage space to house the app and the minimum required mobile operating system.
The good news is the required versions are pretty bottom barrel, typically between two and four versions behind the most recent OS.
One exception is the newer Play SugarHouse app, which currently requires iOS 9.0, with the latest release being iOS 10.x. The Betfair mobile casino OS requirements are also a bit more rigid than most.
